There are a wide array of career pathways to choose from for young people with various skill sets and passions. To provide UChicago students with insight into the range of opportunities and what it’s like to work in these positions, EPIC is hosting a virtual career series with young UChicago alumni—starting with EPIC’s former Bartlett and DRW Fellows. Alumni will share insights into their day-to-day lives, how they got to where they are, and what they wish they knew when they were UChicago students. Join EPIC as they welcome Harris Public Policy ’21 graduate, and current public administration PhD student at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Brandon Charles. Register here.

Bio:

Brandon graduated from Harris Public Policy with an MA in Public Policy in 2021 and has an undergraduate degree in economics from Dartmouth College. As a Bartlett Fellow during his time at Harris, he worked with Professor Mark Templeton to analyze climate change adaptation efforts by energy utilities and their regulators. Prior to attending Harris, Brandon worked as an energy market analyst, including roughly a decade as a consultant focused on electric utility pricing, regulatory policy, and resource planning and as an in-house market analyst at fuel cell manufacturer Bloom Energy. During this time, he analyzed the economics of distributed and large-scale power projects, the impact of policy proposals on consumer electricity prices, utility resource portfolios, and the development and structure of consumer electricity prices. Brandon is now pursuing a doctorate in public administration at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs pursuing research interests including energy policy, economic and social consequences of energy transition policies, and administrative and other policy tools to address energy transition consequences.
