Midwest Climate Summit Student Leader Application

Deadline to apply: Friday, August 4, 2023

More info and application are available here.

The Midwest Climate Collaborative put together the Midwest Climate Summit in February 2023 at Washington University in St. Louis, as well as a virtual student conference that took place online in March 2023. If you attended either of these events, thank you! We are happy to have been able to see students in this space, and we hope you enjoyed the experience.

We are looking to create even better events in 2024. The Midwest Climate Collaborative would love for you to be a leader in planning a student conference. The goal of the student conference is to bring together students from colleges and universities across the Midwest to discuss important problems students are facing regarding environmental issues at their respective campuses. The conference seeks to not only facilitate relationship building across campuses, but also to collaboratively work on action items that demonstrate collective support and solidarity for different policies, initiatives, or movements students are working on.

The Midwest Climate Collaborative plans to have the student conference in person as a part of the overall 2024 Midwest Climate Summit. This year, both events will take place in Indianapolis, from April 3- April 5.

The student conference in 2023 was online and separate from the in person Summit, but we are open to changing the format of the student portion for next year, and we would love for you to help plan it!

We are looking for two student leaders to oversee coordination of the conference. Each student will receive a $2,500 stipend.

  • Leaders will be given a stipend and can expect to put in at least 5-10 hours of work a week into planning.

  • Leaders will meet regularly with one another and with an advisory group leading up to the summit and through the end of the academic year.

  • Leaders will be given a lot of creative freedom in how this event is coordinated. It will be a great opportunity to network and expand event planning skills.

  • Student leaders will create a student committee to help with the overall planning of the conference.

Student leaders will be expected to attend the Midwest Climate Summit in person April 3- 5 in Indianapolis. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered.
