After a successful inaugural competition in the fall, Shell Energy is hosting a second Business Case Competition during spring quarter focused specifically on the University of Chicago’s energy policy and decarbonization goals. The attached prompt outlines the case topic and logistics, but below is a high-level overview:

– Shell management is interested in engaging Booth students in assessing the University of Chicago’s near-term decarbonization goals from a business standpoint to determine (a) if and how they can be met early, and (b) what the university’s long-term decarbonization goals and strategies should be.

– Teams can be made up of 2-4 undergraduate and/or graduate students from any school at UChicago; each team must have at least one Booth MBA student

– Semi-finalist teams will have the opportunity to present to Shell executives and finalist teams will present to University leadership

– Kick-off/Q&A Meeting on March 29th

– If you are interested in participating, please email Madhav Seth (madhavseth@chicagobooth.edu) or Emily McDuff (emcduff@chicagobooth.edu), Please email us if you don’t have a team and we’ll try to match you up!

Unofficial note: Given the change in the university’s administrative leadership, this is genuinely an inflection point to help shape the University’s climate goals and strategy. We strongly encourage anyone interested in exploring what tangible responses to climate change look like to participate!
